“Passionate romance” takes place in London and Balkans
Bookshops, bedrooms and public transport are about to get a whole lot steamier again, with the publication this April of a new novel from EL James, author of the mega-selling Fifty Shades trilogy of erotic fiction.
Described on James’s website as “a Cinderella story for the 21st century”, The Mister takes place in Europe – “from the heart of London through wild, rural Cornwall to the bleak, forbidding beauty of the Balkans”.
“London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone,” the book’s description on James’s website reads. “But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails.”
How does the Balkans come into play? Through a woman.
“[Trevelyan’s] biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past.”
“Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi?”
Penguin, the novel’s publisher, posted an extract on its website:
“Alessia opens the door but freezes on the threshold of the room.
Fast asleep facedown and sprawled naked across the large bed. She stands, shocked and fascinated at once, her feet rooted to the wooden floor as she stares. He’s stretched across the length of the bed, tangled in his duvet but naked . . . very naked.”
The Mister is published on 16 April, and available to pre-order now.
